Cody Brdicko
Cody Brdicko is a Firefighter/Hazardous Materials Technician assigned to Heavy Rescue 33 in Omaha, NE. Cody is a member of FEMA’s Nebraska Task Force 1 where he is a Rescue, Logistics, Water Rescue Specialist and FEMA Structural Collapse Specialist Instructor. He is a graduate from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Emergency Management and a graduate from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Cody has been Instructing Fire Service and Technical Rescue classes in a professional setting since 2016. He has taught at several departments and conferences including the Omaha Fire Department, John Sing Memorial Training Day and Wichita HOT.

Logan Watts
Currently serve as a Captain assigned to the Training Division for the City of Grand Island NE. Worked as a firefighter/paramedic and firefighter for 6 years prior to moving into the training division. I am in my 13th year with the Osceola Volunteer Fire Department, with 10 of those years being the training officer. I am part of the Valor Fire Cadre and am a lifelong fire service student.
Jake Hoffman
Jake Hoffman is a Private with the Toledo (OH) Fire Department assigned to Rescue Squad 7. He is a member of OH-TF1 FEMA USAR and co-owner of Squad 5 Fire Training.
LJay Geist & David Mellen
LJay Geist has been in the fire service since 2009. After being a volunteer for a couple years he quickly knew he was ready to go career. LJay holds the rank of driver for the Garden City, KS Fire Department assigned to Downtown Firehouse 1. He is part of their wildland team and has instructed three recruit academies for the department.
David Mellen is a 24-year student of the fire service and has been a paramedic for 19 years. He is a Battalion Chief for Leavenworth County Fire District #2 and a career Fire Captain for the Edwardsville Fire Department, a suburban department in the KC Metro area. Mellen is a returning presenter at FDIC and multiple other fire conferences and has been published in several trade magazines. He is also the owner of Valor Fire Training in and host his podcast “Back in Quarters”.
Zach Mathews
Zach Mathews is an experienced keynote speaker, trainer and executive coach who inspires audiences with fast paced and entertaining programs focused on leadership, communication, and personal growth. Zach has taught these skills to firefighters and public safety employees for over twenty-five years. He is the Planning Section Chief for the Indiana Fire & Public Safety Academy, a National Fire Academy contractor instructor and teaches internationally through his company, Experienced Solutions LLC. Zach founded Reading People to Leading People based on his experiences as a skilled interrogator and fire service instructor. This course using the science of kinesics and the art of storytelling to personally examine one’s own communication style, provide aggression and weapons detection techniques and read the true intentions of what others are saying with their body and words. Zach is passionate about using these unique skills to make firefighters safer and more successful.
Marc Hill
Marc Hill has spent over 20 years in public service careers, holding positions as a teacher, coach, principal, firefighter, engineer, and Fire Chief for both volunteer and career departments. He's also an accomplished author, with the Amazon bestseller "Two Dark Thirty: True Stories to Inspire Teaching and Learning in Our Local Heroes" and its accompanying workbook. Marc's qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and numerous state and national certifications as an instructor, firefighter/paramedic, and incident commander. Throughout his journey, he's been recognized with three Teacher of the Year awards and the prestigious Core Values Award. He is the founder and chief instructor at Two Dark Thirty Educational Consulting.
Zach Bruhn
Zach is a Major with 19 years of experience with the Oklahoma City Fire Department. He worked his way up through the ranks while serving as a paramedic/rescue diver firefighter assigned to the department’s rescue station. After being promoted to Sergeant /Engineer he spent time at some of the city’s most demanding stations. Once promoted to Captain, he spent four years riding in the right seat on one of the busiest engine co. in the state. Currently Zach is the station officer at Fire Station 7, functioning as the ride-out Battalion Chief for District 3. In addition to working in suppression, Zach also has served as the Field Training Officer for the OKCFD’s Recruit Training Academy. He has also functioned as an instructor for their Lieutenants, Captain’s, and Major’s promotional academies. Zach is a founding member of his department’s Mentor and Promotional Committees and an annual department wide Crew Development instructor. Prior to entering the fire service, he spent time in the U.S.A.F. as a Combat Controller assigned to the 22nd Special Tactics Squadron under Air Force Special Operations Command. Throughout his career Major Bruhn has been able to successfully train and acquire numerous certifications such as Fire Instructor I, EMS Instructor, Fire Officer I, Swift-Water Technician and Rope Rescue Technician and 1403 Instructor just to name a few. Zach recently finished up his bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration from Columbia Southern University. When off duty he serves as the Lead Instructor for Oklahoma State University OKC’s Fire Protection Fire Academy. Additionally for OSU, Zach is an adjunct professor, teaching classes for the Fire Protection bachelors’ program. Recently he had the honor of serving on IFSTA’s validation committee for their Initial Response for Structure Fires Strategies and Tactics fourth edition. Zach also has served as the chair for Oklahoma State Firefighters Association’s Educational Advisory Committee which organizes the state’s annual firefighter training conference.
Justin Bailey
Justin Bailey is a 25-year student of the fire service. He is the Fire Chief with the Oliver Springs (TN) Fire Department and a Captain/Training Officer with the Knoxville (TN) Fire Department, where he has been serving since 2007. He started his career in 1999 as a Junior Firefighter/Explorer with the Oliver Springs Fire Department. He is a part-time fire instructor with the state of Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy, delivering classroom and hands-on instruction in various topics on-campus, at regional fire conferences, and at various local fire departments throughout Tennessee. He has presented at both local and national fire conferences on the topics of volunteer training program development, professional development, and rural fireground management. Justin has an associate degree in Allied Health Science from Roane State Community College and a bachelor’s degree from the Columbia Southern University in Fire Administration.

Denell Rhinehart
Denell is a Flight Paramedic for LifeNet 1-3 in Columbus, Nebraska and the Simulation Coordinator and Faculty instructor for the Paramedicine Program at Central Community College in addition to serving as a volunteer in Fullerton, Nebraska. She serves on the Nebraska CISM team, many EMS-related boards and teaches EMS education throughout Nebraska as well as national engagements.
Jozef Kuehn
Jozef Kuehn is a nationally registered paramedic with extensive experience across various facets of emergency medical services (EMS). Growing up in the country outside of Minden, Nebraska, Jozef began his EMS career in Kansas. His journey has taken him through Kansas, Louisiana, Texas, and now back to Lincoln, Nebraska. Currently, Jozef serves as program faculty at Southeast Community College and is a member of the paramedic team at Nebraska Medicine.
Jozef’s diverse background includes county-based EMS, private service 911 and interfacility transport, rural fire-based, hospital-based EMS, helicopter EMS operations, municipal third service EMS, event medicine, occupational and industrial medicine, and critical care interfacility transport. He has also had the privilege of working with one of the most progressive EMS services in the country. With four years of experience as an EMS instructor, Jozef is passionate about teaching and sharing his knowledge with others.
